Gospel Oak to Barking Electrification

Scope of Work

The London Overground route between Gospel Oak and Barking previously operated four, two-car, diesel trains per hour.

There was insufficient capacity on these trains to handle the rising passenger demand on the route. Electrifying the route supported the aspirations of TFL to launch a new fleet of four car trains.

The work will provide an alternative route for rail freight traffic across North London.

Hedson Rail Somafel were engaged by Network Rail to install:

  • Main parts steel
  • Small part steel (SPS)
  • Aerial earth wire & contact and catenary throughout
  • Tensorex system, switches, neutral section
  • Flashover strips, and associated earthing and bonding

Through proactive planning, excellent supervision and a robust culture within the team we successful maintained our accident and incident free record.
